4 DATA ACQUISITION/ CONTROL SYSTEM The hardware for the data acquisition system was composed of a Macintosh computer, an analog multiplexer AMUX-64T, and a high resolution multifunction I/O board model NB-MIO-16H-18. 1) data acquisition program. A total of 31 sensor signals, including eight (8) differential pressures, three (3) absolute pressures, sixteen (16) temperature indicators, and two (2) mass flow sensors, each providing measurements of mass flow rate and fluid density, were connected by a Centronics-type wiring to an AMUX-64T analog multiplexer capable of handling up to 32 differential input signals.
Differential pressures at six (6) locations along the 50-m (lM-ft) loop inner test pipe, and at two (2) locations along the reference pipes were measured with differential pressure transducers. Pressures at the inlet and outlet of the outer test pipe were measured with pressure indicators. Oil temperatures at ten (10) locations along the test pipe were measured using thermocouples. Temperatures of the oil at the inlet and outlet reference pipes, and temperatures of the cooling water at the inlet and outlet of the concentric test pipe were measured using Resistance Temperature Detectors (RIDs).
