The King map gave a fairly accurate representation of the Mississippi River, of the first few hundred miles of the Missouri River, and the Pacific coast around the mouth of the Columbia River. But in between those points, what little detail was given was labeled “conjectural”—which meant it was anybody’s guess as to what actually would be found.
