He tried to work seriously on his autobiography but made little progress. He lived for a little while at the YMCA, then moved back home where his mother nagged him about his future. He had quit the job with Dr. Woodson, and Carrie was not impressed with the idea of his writing full time rather than taking a job where he could earn some money.
