In this memoir being gay is not, for the most part, about sexual attraction and emotional attachments – these are never discussed apart from a brief declaration that ‘I get more out of men. I just do. ’18 Rather it is primarily about processing the knowledge that one might be attracted to other men: ‘since I was thirteen or fourteen I knew this about myself. And that was it. I just knew it was a bit different. I thought about it but never had any problems dealing with it. Anything I have done in life I need to be able to say afterwards that I did it for the right reasons.
