It is because they are contradictory and unstable, not because they transcend the body or offer a better version of human existence. Posthuman YA narratives offer young readers and viewers a site from which to explore and question the various ways in which technology and science can affect human beings and the societies they live in.

This is an incipient but nevertheless signiﬁcant thematic concern in very recent YA narratives, where innovative writers such as Cory Doctorow, Ernest Cline, Lauren Myracle and Jess C. The posthuman body does, however, symbolise a transgression of the boundaries that have traditionally deﬁned human life, because it signals a merging of the organic body with technoscience – but this point is never really developed in Ostry’s analysis.
