When I go with my students to visit various religious sites (a Hindu temple, a mosque, a Buddhist monastery), the majority are enthusiastic, quite open to participation in other settings and rituals, and very slow to criticize the host tradition.
To focus in this way on intention gives our discussion of MRP a heavily individualistic bias. It reinforces a view of MRP that sees it almost entirely as the product of personal choice, and that sees the purpose and benefits of religion through the lens of the individual alone.
