1 Components of an Active Clearance Control System The cooling air is extracted from the fan duct or from the appropriate stage of the HPC. In the air duct, which guides the cooling air towards the turbine case area, an airflow control valve is installed. This turbine clearance control valve is used to control the amount of air flowing to the turbine case. Because of the different cooling demands of the HPT and the LPT one valve for each turbine is needed (and one for the HPC if HPC ACC is installed).
